Recent heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh has triggered avalanches in higher reaches of Kullu, Kinnaur and Chamba districts. A video of an avalanche gushing down the National Highway in Kinnaur district has gone viral on the social media.
The avalanche occurred near Tinku Nala in Pooh sub-division of Kinnaur district. Shot by security forces deployed in the area, the video shows the avalanche filling up the highway even as people run to save their lives.
An earth mover, deployed to clear the road, is seen getting buried under the avalanche in the dramatic 2.5-minute-long video. The men shooting the video are visibly shocked at the incident with some comparing it to a train just out of a platform.
Earlier on Wednesday an avalanche struck near Shipki-La on the Sino-Indo border in Kinnaur. Six jawans of the Army’s 7 JAK Rifles were buried under the avalanche. The body of one of the jawans, Havaldar Rakesh Kumar, was recovered the same day while the five others were still missing.
