Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur offers bonanza to HP farmers in his maiden budget The Hush Post: In a bonanza for farmers, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and the finance minister of the state as well, Jai Ram Thakur is presenting his first budget 2018-19 in the Vidhan Sabha. Some of the highlights of the budget are as follows:

  • Cheaper electricity for farmers. The tariff rate will be 75 paise instead of Rs 1.75
  • Rs 130 cr sanctioned for irrigation. Within 5 years, irrigation scheme to reach all farmers
  • MNREGA to be extended from 100 days to 120 days
  • Milk to be costlier by Rs 1 to benefit milk producers
  • All panchayats to be connected by roads
  • Rs 23 cr sanctioned for polyhouse construction
  • ST category people to be given milch cows
  • Gas connection in the name of every woman in the next two years
  • Rs 8cr more for anti-hail nets in apple producing areas
  • Solar energy to be used for pumping water
  • Norms to be relaxed for industries wanting to invest in the state
  • Cement factories to come up in Chamba and sirmaur
  • Potato chips manufacturing units to come up in Kangra and Una
