The Election Commission has barred Himachal Pradesh BJP chief Satpal Singh Satti from election campaigning for 48 hours. His time starts from 10 am on Saturday. The action comes in the wake of Model Code of Conduct.
The development comes after the opposition Congress approached the Election Commission with a complaint on Monday.
Satti has been issued a notice by Chief Electoral Officer Devesh Kumar seeking his reply within 24 hours. Satti had used a slur against Congress President Rahul Gandhi while campaigning. A criminal case was registered on Tuesday against Satti.
Satti had targeted Rahul Gandhi and his family at a public meeting in Nalagrah’s Ramashehar town in Solan district on April 13.
Himachal Pradesh will go to the polls on May 19.
His remarks came while replying to Gandhi’s “chowkidar chor hai” taunt. Apparently he used the M-word , saying “If PM Modi is a thief, then you are a m********”.
Satti has been booked under Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code. The case pertains to obscene acts and songs.
