The Met department has issued a warning of very heavy rain on Sunday in Shimla, Solan, Mandi and Kangra districts in Himachal Pradesh.
Heavy rain is likely to block roads in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Mandi and Shimla districts, according to a government advisory.
The Kangra administration announced the closure of all schools and colleges on Saturday.
The Dharamsala-Kangra road was blocked on Saturday morning due to a landslide near Sakoh village. The traffic was diverted through the Sheela crossing. A makeshift road across a khud in Bhadiyan Kothi in Chamba was washed away due to heavy rain. About 20 people were stuck on the other side of the road and were rescued with the help of Fire Brigade Department.
In Una, the mini secretariat was flooded with water on Saturday afternoon making it difficult for office-goers and district officials to move out of the complex.
Most towns in Himachal received heavy rain on Friday night. Kangra received the highest rainfall (118 mm), followed by Dharamsala (115.6 mm), Dalhousie (84 mm), Chamba (65 mm) and Shimla (40 mm).
Punjab too on high alert
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh directed all deputy commissioners in the state to closely monitor the situation. Singh himself is keeping a close tab on the situation.
The Punjab government has issued an alert in the state after a forecast of heavy rain in the next 48 to 72 hours.
