Class 12 student from Kangra fails and jumps into Sukhna, dies

After failing in two subjects, a 17-year-old Class XII student allegedly committed suicide by jumping into Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Manav Sharma, a resident of village Jasur, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh.

According to the police, he had appeared in the exam in Humanities stream in Pathankot this year. Since then, he had been staying with his relatives in Sector 20, Chandigarh and was pursuing IELTS course. After the result was announced on Thursday, he suddenly went missing.

Passersby noticed the body near stairs number 2 and 3 around 4 pm of Sukhna Lake. With the help of divers, the body was taken out. The boy was taken to Government Multi-specialty Hospital, Sector 16, where doctors declared him brought dead.
According to police, no suicide note was recovered from the site. A case has been registered under 174 of CrPC of Sector 3 police.

On Saturday, the postmortem of the body will be conducted before his parents reach the city. Meanwhile, the police have beefed security in and around Sukhna Lake.
