The Hush Post: Following incessant rains since Saturday, traffic on Mandi – Kullu road has been closed for traffic. The fierce Beas river has broken barricades on roads and is literally flowing on the national highway. As a result, an empty tourist bus and a truck have been washed away in the Beas at Manali.

Traffic has been stopped on orders from the Mandi administration at Pandoh and Aut. During the rainfall earlier in the peak rainy season, similar conditions were witnessed at Dwara where the road and river meet. If the situation persists any longer, alternate routes would be opened, the district administration said.

Normal life has been disrupted following heavy rainfall and flash flood in the region. Kullu Deputy Commissioner Yunus Khan said, “We are trying to evacuate & rehabilitate people. I request people not to go to higher reaches and near rivers”. Many people were rescued from the Tibetan Colony in Kullu which is situated close to the Beas river. At least 26 people are stranded in Dobhi area, some 22 km from Manali due to sudden rise in Beas water-levels. The police and also the state minister Govind Thakur are at the spot to monitor rescue operations.

Meanwhile, schools in Kullu, Chamba and Kinnaur have been closed for Monday i.e. September 24. The Deputy Commissioners of the respective districts have ordered that no government, private or public school should be allowed to open on Monday.
