Shimla is likely to witness a rainy Holi, going by weather predicted by the Meterological Department. Rain and snow has been predicted for Himachal Pradesh from 19 to 21 March.
Earlier, a wet Holi was witnessed in 2011 in Shimla.
On Sunday, higher reaches of Manali witnessed intermittent snow. Sleet and rain was witnessed in the lower areas on Sunday afternoon. Clouds played hide and seek with the sun for the earlier part of the day in most parts.
An extended winter has been playing spoilsport for people in the hills who are now wanting to enjoy spring. “We had so many bouts of snow this year that we now want to get rid of heaters and woollens now,” said Ritu Sharma, a Shimla resident.
“We get up in the morning with the hope of soaking in the sun, and in the meanwhile clouds start appearing and spoil the day. The night and day temperature is very low even now,” added Ved Prakash.
People have been looking for excuses to leave the hill state on some pretext or the other to escape winters. “How long can you stay away from home? We went for a vacation to Goa, when we came back, it was as bad as it was,” said Anjula, a government lecturer and Kotkhai resident.
