The Hush Post: Five-time legislator and former Bharatiya Janata Party cabinet minister Rajeev Bindal was named the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker, a statement by BJP state President Satpal Satti said. Bindal was the health minister in the previous BJP government in the state led by Prem Kumar Dhumal from 2007-12. Once the new MLAs take oath, Bindal has to be elected by the Assembly to be the Speaker. The first Assembly session of the Jai Ram Thakur-led BJP government is likely to be held in Dharamsala in January.
Also, Himachal Pradesh’s new Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Wednesday appointed senior IAS officer Manisha Nanda as additional chief secretary and principal secretary of the state. The 1985-batch officer’s appointment came soon after the 52-year-old Thakur was sworn in as chief minister. Nanda, a Himachal Pradesh cadre officer, is at present posted as Additional Chief Secretary (Urban Development, Housing and Town and Country Planning). A major bureaucratic reshuffle is believed to be on the cards.
