A Russian woman, 33, was allegedly gang-raped by two unknown men in Himachal Pradesh’s tourist destination of Manali on Thursday night.
The woman, who was part of a research group came here last week. In her complaint, she told the cops that the two men assaulted a local boy who was her local guide to the town. This youth was accompanying her to the guest house where she was staying when the incident took place.
After beating up the youth, they dragged her inside a vehicle. Then they took her to an isolated place between the Hadimba Temple and Old Manali where they sexually assaulted her.
Shalini Agnihotri, Kullu Superintendent of Police arrived at the spot on Friday evening to supervise the investigation. She said, “We have registered a case and formed three teams to identify and nab the culprits. The probe is on in the case.”
The case was registered under sections 376-D (gangrape). The police took the rape victim to the crime spot along with sniffer dogs to get some clue about the culprits. The victim was taken to a local hospital for medical examination.
This is the second incident this year in Manali where a foreigner was sexually assaulted. In May, a Japanese woman was allegedly raped by a local taxi driver.
