Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Saturday announced incentives for the state’s journalists. The incentives included providing laptops to journalists.
Presenting the annual state budget for 2019-20, Thakur said that all the accreditated journalists based at district and state level would be given a free laptop.
The government also increased ex-gratia grant to journalists from existing Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4 lakh in the case of death during service period.
Besides, the financial aid to journalists on retirement has also been increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs one lakh, added the CM.
CM Thakur also acknowledged the contribution of journalists in dissemination of information and development of the state. He justified the decision of giving laptops as journalists have to visit different places for media coverage.
