Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday performed “house-warming” rituals at her newly-built house at Chharabra near Shimla.
The pooja of the two-storeyed house was performed on the second navratra. The pooja is being conducted by priests specially invited from south India.
Priyanka arrived here on Sunday and is expected to return to New Delhi later on Monday. The rituals will continue for two more days.
The house lies close to the President’s summer resort, The Retreat and the Oberoi Group’s luxury spa Wildflower Hall. The house is constructed on a three-and-a-half bigha agricultural plot which cost her around Rs 47 lakh.
The house was constructed under the supervision of a Delhi-based architect earlier. The construction was started in 2008. In 2011, it was razed down and rebuilt by a Shimla-based builder Tenzin in the hill architecture style. It has an open terrace, a drive-in and five big rooms that have wooden interiors, shingled exteriors and a sloping tiled roof.
The Gandhis are regular visitors to Chharabra. A law under Section 118 of the Land Reforms and Tenancy Act prohibits outsiders from buying land in Himachal. However, the Congress government in the state in 2007 relaxed the acquisition norms for Priyanka
