Parents protest against fee hike by private schools in Shimla

In Shimla, several parents are protesting fee hikes in various private schools. Under the banner of Students-Parents Forum, the parents staged protest outside the office of the State Education Department of Himachal Pradesh.

The protesters demanded to constitute a regulatory commission for educational institutes and the refund of the hefty fee charged by the private schools.

The parents have threaten to intensify their agitation if their demands are not met.   

The protesting parents complained against irregular fee hike and other related issues of private schools, including convents, and those run by DAV. The parents complained that the schools even lacking basic facilities like toilets and drinking water.

On the other hand, Higher Education Director Amarjeet Kumar Sharma said that action will be taken against the schools which have hiked fee against the norms and running unauthorised books and uniform shops on the campuses.

A large number of complaints of an increase in the fee structure, making it mandatory to buy books and uniform from particular shops, have been received by the department. Although the department assured the parents to resolve their issues, the officials are still verifying the complaints.
