The Hush Post: Around a dozen cars were swept away and property worth lakhs destroyed following a cloudburst in Kotkhai, Shimla. The cloudburst occurred on Tuesday evening at Kiari bus stand. Kotkhai experienced heavy downpour on Tuesday as monsoon continued to be active in the higher reaches of Himachal. Earlier too, cloudbursts were reported from Kangra, Chamba, Kullu and Sirmaur districts during the past three days. There has been heavy rainfall lashed the state, throwing normal life out of gear.
Meanwhile, the Beas flowing through the Kullu valley calmed on Tuesday even as remnants of the destruction caused by the ravaging floods surfaced. The raging river had washed away roads, building, bridges, vehicles. It is estimated that the Kullu valley, especially in Manali, suffered losses to the tune of Rs. 100 crores during the 72 hour long downpour.
Downstream in Mandi, the flood gates of Larzi and Pandoh dams remained open as the authorities allowed the silt to pass away. In Pong, the dam authorities postponed the decision to open the flood gates after reviewing the situation. The BBMB had earlier planned to release 49 thousand cusecs of water from the Maharana Pratap Sagar reservoir into the Beas as the water level had almost touched the danger mark.
