In a rare turn of weather, Lahaul and Spiti received snow flakes on Sunday as the entire state of Himachal Pradesh received heavy rainfall in the last two days. Keylong received 3 cm snowfall.
Snowfall is very rare in the month of August in the tribal ditrict of Lahaul and Spiti. The last time it snowed in August was in 1995, about 24 years ago.
There have been many landslides on the Manali-Rohtang highway and Rohtang-Koksar road, though there has been no snow in these areas.
The Chandigarh-Manali highway is still closed between Mandi and Kullu, after the road was closed for traffic on Saturday evening.
Shimla-Kalka, Shimla-Mandi , Shimla-Narkanda roads saw landslides but have been opened to traffic as of now.
Shimla Tutikandi bypass highway has been closed since Sunday morning due to landslides and trees being uprooted and blocking the road.
