The Shimla district administration on Tuesday issued guidelines for traffic movement on the Dhalli-Theog road. The decision has been take in the wake of locals and tourists facing problems due to traffic jams and skidding of vehicles on Dhalli-Theog road (NH-5). Severe frost on the road, especially after sunset, hampered traffic movement on the road.
Shimla Deputy Commissioner Amit Kashyap ordered regulation of the movement of all HRTC and Private buses and tourist vehicles plying from Upper Shimla towards Shimla and vice-versa.
According to the guidelines, no buses will be allowed to go to Kufri before 9:00 am from Dhalli, and buses coming from Upper Shimla will also not come to Kufri before 9:00 am.
Similarly, in the evening, all buses coming to Shimla fromTheog/Upper Shimla side will cross Theog before 4:30pm. Subsequently, all buses going from Shimla towards Theog/Upper SHimla will have to cross Theog before 5:00pm.
The administration has also restricted the movement of tourist vehicles on the stretch for ‘not being adept in driving on snow laden roads’. Accordingly, no tourist vehicle or vehicle carrying tourists towards Kufri will cross Dhalli before 9:00 am in the morning. And, all tourist vehicles from Kufri will come back towards Shimla by 3:30 pm.
The official order also requires vehicles coming towards Shimla from Theog/Upper Shimla to use the Old Kufri road passing through Kufri Bazar. The vehicles going to Kufri and beyond will have to use the new Kufri Bye-pass road.
The DC order remains in force for a period of seven days. It will be reviewed earlier if road/weather conditions improve.
