Former MP from Hamirpur and State BJP President Suresh Chandel has formally joined the Indian National Congress.
He was welcomed into the party fold by party supremo Rahul Gandhi.
He said that he was disgusted with the way BJP was treating its leaders naming LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Shanta Kumar.
Chandel said that he was also treated badly by the party. He said it was the same party where there was a lot of scope for a dialogue. Now there is none.
Keen watchers of Himachal affairs say that Chandel’s exit can hamper Anurag Thakur’s chances of winning from Hamirpur since Chandel has a big influence in the constituency. He comes from Bilaspur and a huge chunk of voters and his supporters are under his influence.
Chandel was elected three times as an MP. He was state president of Himachal BJP from 1998-2000 and was presently national vice president of BJP Kisan Morcha, and Governing body member of Indian council of Agriculture research, he was also Organisation General Secretary of Himachal BJP from 1988-1998.
