Two cops suspended in Shimla for shielding a policeman’s son in Sanjauli hit-and-run case

The Shimla Police have suspended two of its policemen for allegedly trying to save the accused in the Sanjauli hit-and-run case. The policemen have been accused of conspiracy and shielding the main accused, who is the son of a policeman.

The case was re-investigated on the orders of the SP following which the police have booked the policeman’s son and four others. Besides, two head constables have been transferred to police lines, reported News18.com.

A speeding car had hit two persons on Sanjauli-Navbahar road on the evening of October 29. One of the victims had succumbed to his injuries. The relatives of the victim had approached the SP accusing the policemen of diluting the case. The complaint said that the main accused was the son of a policeman and the police was trying to shield him.

According to the police, Sanjeev Chauhan, 42, a native of village Chilla Devathi Deha, Chaupal was returning home after shopping grocery from. At around 9 pm he was hit by a speeding white-coloured car. The car didn’t slow down and then hit 25-year-old Pawan Kumar near the parking a few metres ahead. Greiviously injured Pawan Kumar and Sanjeev Chauhan were rushed to the hospital. Pawan Chauhan was referred to the PGI, Chandigarh, but succumbed to his injuries there.

The culprits were nabbed after the police checked the CCTV footage. It came to light that a policeman’s car, driven by his son, had hit Sanjeev Chauhan. Four others were accompanying him in the car.

Sanjeev Chauhan is still recuperating at the IGMC and works with a commission agent in Bhattakuffar. Pawan Kumar is survived by his old mother and two married sisters.
