Hyundai launches first All-electric car Kona in India at Rs 25.30 lakh

Hyundai Kona, an all-electric car from the Korean Automobile giant, is launched in at the introductory price of Rs 25.30 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The car is an electric SUV that’s imported as a completely-knocked-down (CKD unit) by Hyundai.

The car comes with a 39.2kWh lithium-ion battery and sports a permanent magnet synchronous motor which churns out power equivalent to 136hp and 395 Nm of torque. The lithium-ion battery can be charged to 100 percent capacity in 57min using a 50kW DC fast charger. If you use a standard AC power source to charge the battery then the charging time will be 6hr 10min.

Kona looks exactly like any other conventional gasoline-powered SUV and only with the absence of grill and exhaust pipes you come to know that it’s an electric vehicle. Kona comes equipped with automatic LED headlamps and tail-lamps. The interiors are plush and the SUV sports a 7.0-inch digital dashboard which allows you to change drive modes (Eco, Comfort, and Sport), provides information on the power consumption and you can also manage the EV’s charge settings.

Apart from that it comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging and automatic climate control.

Kona comes with heated front seats which are 10-way electrically adjustable, a sunroof, plastic body cladding, roof rails, adjustable regenerative braking via the paddleshifters, leather seats and steering wheel, and heated wing mirrors. Hyundai Kona sport 17-inch alloy wheels with tyre pressure monitoring system, a rear defogger and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

The carmaker has given special attention to the safety and equipped their SUV with ABS with EBD, ESC, traction control, 6 airbags, hill-start assist, rear parking sensors, and a rear camera. The most beautiful thing is that this electric SUV comes with a Virtual Engine Sound System which means it mimics the sound of an internal combustion engine.

Apart from providing a home charger with the EV, the carmaker will also install charging points at the dealerships and EV charging points at select Indian Oil petrol pumps in four major Indian cities.

Company is offering the electric SUV with a 3-year/unlimited warranty as standard and 8-year/1.6 lakh kilometer warranty for the battery.
