About 80 US personnel have been killed and about 200 others are injured during Iran’s missile attack on the American Ain al-Asad airbase in Iraq.
Iran’s alleged attack against the US took place on Wednesday. The attack was launched in retaliation to the killing of Major General Qasem Soleimani, an IRGC source has claimed.
Iranian state television said Iran had fired 15 missiles at US targets. The US military said at least two Iraqi facilities hosting US-led coalition personnel were targeted at about 1:30 a.m. Iraq time (2230 GMT on Tuesday). Iraq said 22 missiles were fired.
However, Donald Trump has categorically said that all is well. A Dubai-based western private security source with staff at the al-Asad and Erbil military bases told CNN there were “no casualties” in Wednesday’s Iranian missile attack.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said the missile attack was a “slap in the face” of the United States. He said that US troops should leave the region. He was addressing a gathering of Iranians who chanted “Death to America”.
Iranian television showed mourners celebrating the attack.
