The Hush Post: If anyone meets with a road accident in Delhi, irrespective of the domicile, he will be treated free in government and private hospitals whichever is closer. The Delhi government has made this announcement and also added that burns or acid attack victims too will get free treatment in private and government hospitals free of cost. The state cabinet meeting, chaired by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, proposed the accident victims scheme which was approved on Tuesday. Delhi is the first state to make such an announcement. While treatment in such cases was already free in the government hospitals but now the private hospitals too fall under the ambit of the scheme. Significantly, the government has not fixed any upper limit on the expenses to be borne by it. The move has been brought in to save life saving moments, what is considered golden hour post-accident.
The Delhi Health Minister Satyender Jain said, “Our aim is to save as many lives as possible. Even when a private hospital is located near-by, many accident victims are taken to government hospitals and often the golden hour is lost.”
Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal also said in a tweet, “Every life counts. Every life is important for us. If an accident victim receives best medical care immediately, many lives cud be saved,”
