16 people were killed in a road accident in Jammu & Kashmir’s Doda today. Many others were injured in the incident. The injured have been admitted the nearby hospital.
According to police, an overcrowded Tempo Trax rolled down a gorge on Batote-Kishtwar national highway in Doda district’s Marmat area on Tuesday afternoon. The taxi was on its way from Kalini to Goa village in Marmat.
Preliminary reports suggest the vehicle skidded off the road fell down a 1000 feet deep gorge. 16 persons died on the spot. The number of those injured is yet to be ascertained. However, reports put the number around 5.
Reports said, locals rushed the injured to nearby hospital. The locals helped the police and also helped them in rescuing the survivors.
Doda Superintendent of Police Mumtaz Ahmed said the deceased also included children.
