Four security personnel have been killed in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kupwara district today. The deceased include an Inspector of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), a jawan and two policemen of the Jammu & Kashmir Police.
Eight personnel, including a CRPF commandant have also been injured in the encounter.
The security personnel neutralized two militants during in the anti-terrorism operation.
Security forces on Friday early morning launched a cordon and search operation in Babagund and Kralgund villages of Langate area in Kupwara. The joint team comprised of the Army’s 22 RR, 92 Battalion CRPF and SOG. The security forces had information about presence of militants hiding in a house.
During the search operation the militants opened fire on the security forces. In the ensuing encounter that kept raging throughout the day, ultras kept on firing at the security personnel at regular intervals.
The security forces eventually brought down the house. The security forces then claimed to have killed two Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists.
As the security men advanced to recover the bodies, a terrorist who was presumed dead, emerged from the rubble of a destroyed house and started firing, killing the security personnel.
Meanwhile, clashes broke out near the encounter site between the forces and the locals killing a youth.
