400 percent rise in sales of carrom boards in J&K since abrogation of article 370

Since the abrogation of article 370, the sales of the carrom boards in Jammu and Kashmir have increased by 400 percent, says the carrom board manufacturers and traders.

The internet services are suspended in Jammu and Kashmir and also, the outdoor life of the people is affected due to high-security presence. Therefore, people have found old-school indoor games for recreation.

According to the reports, a manufacturer of carom boards, Vishwas Chatrath said, “The rise in the demand is such that we are unable to cater to our local customers.”

Another carom manufacturer from Jalandhar, Vikas reportedly said, “We are 15 carrom manufacturers in Jalandhar. We would export 200 pieces every month earlier. But now, we send 600-700 pieces to Jammu and Kashmir.”

The groups of youth sitting together and playing carrom in the streets of Srinagar is a common sight these days. A private sector employee from Jammu and Kashmir said, “There is absolutely nothing to do for the whole day. I play Ludo for relaxation.”
