3 CRPF jawans killed, 4 others injured as terrorists attack patrol team in Anantnag

In yet another major attack on Indian security forcesin Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, 3 CRPF jawans were killed after terrorists attacked their patrol team today evening. Two other CRPF jawans have sustained injuries in the attack. The gunfire was underway till the last reports came in.

The CRPF battalion attacked was on law and order duty in four groups when the jawans came under fire from buildings and bylanes. A police inspector and a civilian have also been injured in the firing.

Reports say two terrorists attacked the team, one of whom has been killed in the encounter that followed.

The incident occurred near bus stand at KP Road in Anantnag. The terrorists launched an attack on the CRPF patrol team with automatic rifles and hurled grenades.

Arshan Ahmed, SHO of the Anantnag Police Station was injured in the attack. He has been shifted to Srinagar for treatment.

The attack poses a major security concern days before the Amarnath Yatra begins on July 1.

Notably, 40 CRPF personnel were killed in a suicide blast in Pulwama in February this year. The issue had snowballed into an aerial dogfight between India and Pakistan.
