Five security personnel martyred in Handwara encounter, two terrorists killed

Five security personnel have been martyred as the encounter with terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir’s Handwara entered its third day. The encounter occurred in Babgund area and three of the martyred soldiers were from CRPF. ANI reported that the other two men were from Jammu & Kashmir police. The third CRPF jawan succumbed to injuries Sunday morning.

However, two terrorists have also been killed during the encounter.

The security forces set a search operation in the north Kashmir area as they got the information of militants’ presence there.

After the encounter began this Friday, on March 1, there were halts in firing during the day. But terrorists started firing as soon as the security forces advanced towards a house where they were hiding.

Injuring nine security personnel, the terrorists fired indiscriminately as the team headed towards them.

Also, clashes between some youngsters and law enforcing agencies took place near the encounter site on Friday. Several protestors injured the security forces.

However, a youth, identified as Waseem Ahmed Mir, was rushed to hospital after getting severely injured. But the doctors declared that he was brought dead to the hospital.
