The Hush Post: An encounter is on in Kulgam area of Jammu & Kashmir where three terrorists have been shot dead in a joint operation launched by the police, army and CRPF. The operation was launched a day after a police constable in the same district was kidnapped and killed.

J& K Director General of Police S P Vaid tweeted in the morning ” Terrorist group that tortured or colleague CT Mohammed Salem of Kulgam& killed him brutally are all trapped in an encounter with J&K police/Army/ CRPF in Khudawani, Kulgam”.  A few minutes later, he again tweeted about the killing of three terrorists and recovery of three weapons from them.

The encounter took place about two kilometres away from the place where police constable Mohammed Salem was kidnapped and killed. Shah had been undergoing police training in Kathua and was on leave in his home town Kulgam when he was shot dead.

Forces from the Central Reserve Police Force along with the army and the state police have engaged the terrorists who are holed up at a locality in Kulgam’s Khudwani, 70 km from Srinagar.

The security forces got intelligence inputs that the terrorists involved in the killing of the Kulgam police constable were hiding in the area. The search operation quickly turned into an encounter when the terrorists fired at the security forces, a police officer said, according to a news report.

“As the cordon was tightened, hiding terrorists opened fire, triggering an encounter,” the police officer said.

There has been a recent spurt in terrorists targeting Kashmiri youth who are employed with the Indian security forces. Rifleman Aurangzeb of 44, Rashtriya Rifles, was kidnapped and shot dead when he was on his way home to celebrate Eid. A video of his killing and his conversation with the terrorists minutes before he was shot dead was also released, in a bid to scare away Kashmiri youth from joining the security agencies.
