A young tourist guide died in Pahalgam as he drowned in Lidder river after saving seven tourists. The officials informed that the tourist’s boat capsized in the gushing water of the river.
The guide has been identified as Rauf Ahmed Dar, a resident of Yinad village of Kulgam district. The officials said that the raft was capsized at a rafting point in Mawoora Pahalgam after it was caught in sudden gusty winds. As a result of it, the passengers onboard fell into the river. But the guide saved the lives of all the tourists. However, he failed to save himself from drowning.
The officials further informed that local police and a Disaster Response force (DRF) team tried to rescue the guide. But only his dead body was recovered on Saturday morning near the Bhawani bridge. After all the medical and legal formalities, the body was given to his family. Deputy Commissioner Anantnag has recommended his name for a bravery award. Also, the chief secretary has directed the district administration to support the family of the deceased.
Moreover, Omar Abdullah, former chief minister of state tweeted about Dar’s bravery.
