Former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (38) is likely to unfurl the tricolour on the occasion of Independence Day in Leh, Ladakh.
An honorary lieutenant colonel in the Indian Army, Dhoni has joined the army troops in Kashmir valley. He will carry out patrolling, guard duties and similar responsibilities just like other members of his Territorial Army battalion.
Reportedly, Dhoni reached Srinagar on July 30. However, he has been staying with the jawans in barracks and has been eating, working and sleeping like rest of them. As per reports, Dhoni is scheduled to travel along with his regiment to Leh on August 10. Meanwhile, army officials did not disclose the exact location at which Dhoni is likely to hoist the national flag on August 15.
A senior army official said, “Dhoni is a brand ambassador of the Indian Army and has engaged in motivating members of his unit and has often been playing football and volleyball with the soldiers. Also, he is undertaking battle training exercises with the corps. Till August 15, he will remain in the valley”.
Dhoni has taken a two-month break from cricket to serve his regiment in the Kashmir Valley.
