Incident was reported from Shopian in south Kashmir on Wednesday morning
The Hush Post: Two schoolchildren were injured, one of them seriously, in a stone pelting incident in Shopian of South Kashmir on Wednesday morning. Some unidentified persons had resorted to pelting stones on a school bus on Wednesday morning in which these children got injured.
The school bus was reportedly carrying over 50 children and these included four-year-old nursery students of a private school, NDTV reported on Wednesday.
In this incident, a child of class 2 sustained head injury was rushed to a hospital in Srinagar in a critical condition. Another child was hit on his head but he was discharged after first aid.
“My son has been injured in stone pelting, this is against humanity. This could have been anyone’s child,” the injured child’s father was quoted as saying.
The police have started a manhunt for these stone-pelters. “The stone pelters hurled stones around 9.25 (am). The bus belongs to Rainbow International school,” NDTV quoted police officer Shailendra Kumar as saying.
The incident was condemned by political parties also.
Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti tweeted, “Shocked and angered to hear of the attack on a school bus in Shopian. The perpetrators of this senseless and cowardly act will be brought to justice.”
J&K education minister Chowdhary Zulfikhar Ali reportedly condemned the incident.
Former J&K CM and National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah tweeted, “How does pelting stones on school children or tourist buses help advance the agenda of these stone pelters?” Abdullah further said, “Amnesty granted to stone-pelters was meant to encourage more reasonable behaviour but some of these goons are determined to use the opportunity given to them to just pelt more stones.”
J&K Police Chief SP Vaid tweeted: “Complete madness how stone pelters are targeting young school children.”
