Six terrorists and a 12-year-old boy were killed on Friday in three separate gunfights in Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
2 killed in Bandipora
Two terrorists and a boy, who was taken hostage, were killed in an encounter in Mir Mohalla area in Bandipora district. The boy, Aatif, along with two other civilians were trapped in the building, where terrorists were also hiding, police said.
An elderly man managed to escape, while the terrorists held Aatif hostage, according to a NDTV report. Aatif’s body was found under the rubble during search operations.
The encounter had started on Thursday evening. An operation had been launched following a tip- off about the presence of two terrorists inside a house.
“One Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist is among the two killed,” the police said.
2 terrorists killed in Shopian
In Shopian’s Imam Sahib area, security forces killed two terrorists following a gunfight. Earlier, reports on Friday morning had indicated that two-three terrorists were being countered in the encounter. A team of J&K police and 34 Rashtriya Rifles of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were carrying out a cordon.
2 terrorists killed in Sopore
In another gun battle in Sopore’s Warpora area, two terrorists were killed in the same site of an encounter on Thursday where two policemen were injured earlier.
Educational institutions in Sopore have been closed. Mobile Internet services have been suspended as a precautionary measure.
