Billionaire Jeff Bezos is no longer the richest man in the world. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has toppled the Amazon founder from the position to become the richest man in the world.
Bill Gates has again reigned supreme in the list of richest persons in the world. Jeff Bezos had pipped Gates in October 2017 to attain the number one position. Billionaire philanthropist Gates has retained the number one status after a two year gap.
According to report by Bloomberg, Bill Gates’ current net worth is $110 billion (Rs 7.89 lakh crore) while Bezos is at $108.7 billion (Rs 7.82 lakh crore). Bloomberg Billionaire Index tracks the wealth of the richest 500 people in the world.
The change in fortunes is due to the $10 billion order which software-giant Microsoft bagged from Pentagon recently. This deal prompted a surge in Microsoft’s shares while Amazon’ shares plummeted by 2 per cent after the announcement on October 25.
Bill Gates roughly owns 1 per cent shares of Microsoft but that 1 per cent is worth around $7.3 billion.
