Mob-lynching: Four persons, including a woman, beaten to death on suspicion of being a witch

In yet another horrific instance of mob-lynching, unidenfied miscreants beat to death a woman and three others in Jharkhand’s Gumla on the wee hours of Sunday. The Gumla Police have registered a murder case against 12 unidentified persons. Reports suggest the miscreants killed the woman on the suspicion of being a witch. The deceased include a couple.

Anjani Kumar Jha, SP Gumla, said, “Prima facie, it appears the victims were involved in witchcraft. Crime seems to have happened because of superstitious beliefs. Investigation is underway.”

As per reports, around 12 masked persons armed with sticks entered the Shikari village at around 3 am on Sunday. They attacked three houses and forcefully took the inhabitants to the outskirts of the village. The miscreants then attacked them killing 4 persons. Attackers then fled the village. The villagers didn’t intervene out of fear.

The deceased have been identified as Fagna Devi ( 65), Champa Bhagat (65), Suna Bhagat (65) and Peti Bhagat. The situation continues to be tense in Shikari village after the incident.
