The Hush Post: An irate mob lynched two men on the suspicion of being cattle thieves in a village of Godda district in Jharkhand state.

The gruesome incident happened on early Wednesday morning where two men from a minority community were lynched to death on the suspicion of their being involved in the theft of cattle, a report said on Thursday.

The gory incident was captured on camera of a mobile phone by someone and put on social media where it went viral. This video clip shows one of the victims being dragged on the ground and has an injury on his head, the report said.

The deceased have been identified a 35-year-old Jirafuddin Ansari and a 30-year-old Murtaza Miyan, both residents of Taljhari village in Godda, about 300km from state capital Ranchi.

“The victims had previous criminal cases of cattle theft registered against them. Bodies of the victims were handed over to their families following post-mortem,” Godda SP Rajiv Ranjan Singh was quoted as saying in the report.

Meanwhile, four persons have been arrested in this case of the lynching of two and a first information report (FIR) has been lodged against some unidentified persons for stealing buffaloes, the cops said.

“Five people had gone to Dhulu village in the district to steal buffaloes, and as they entered nearby Bankatti village they were caught by villagers armed with bows and arrows,” SP Ranjan Singh reportedly said adding that while three of them managed to flee, the two were surrounded and lynched by the furious villagers.

“There is resentment among villagers about cattle thefts in the area. I am collecting reports about the incident,” Godda legislator Pradeep Yadav who hails from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) was quoted as saying.

Earlier in March this year, a fast-track court in Ramgarh had awarded jail term for 11 cow vigilantes, including a BJP leader, for the lynching of a Muslim man, Alimuddin Ansari, on the suspicion of carrying beef in his car in 2017, the report said.
