Javed Akhtar demands arrest of Muslim cleric | Made remarks on cow slaughter during Bakrid

73-yr-old Akhtar’s remarks come in response to the inciting comments of Karnataka cleric Tanveer Peera Hashim who had said that cows would be slaughtered during Bakrid.

The Hush Post: Taking strong exception to a Muslim cleric’s remarks over cow slaughter, noted Urdu poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar today demanded the arrest of the cleric, terming his remarks as “irresponsible and outrageous”.

‘Communal sentiments of the minority can’t be tolerated’

Stating that communal sentiments of the minority can’t be tolerated, Akhtar tweeted, “Secularism doesn’t mean ignoring or tolerating minority communalism. This irresponsible and outrageous cleric Tanveer Hashim should immediately be arrested for trying to create communal tension in Bengaluru”.

‘Cows would be slaughtered during Bakrid’

73-yr-old Akhtar’s remarks come in response to the inciting comments of Karnataka cleric Tanveer Peera Hashim who had said that cows would be slaughtered during Bakrid.

Hashim made his remarks in the presence of Karnataka minister

“Let me bring to your notice, in two months time there will be Bakrid. In the name of cow, this satan will do a mischief. I am telling you this beforehand so as to ensure that with the cow another sacrifice does not happen,” Tanveer Hashim said in his speech made in the presence of state minister Shivanand Patil.

Hashim was delivering his sermons on the occasion of Ramzan prayer at Vijayapura in north Karnataka a few days ago.  The video of his speech had gone viral on the social media.

Hashim is the head of Hashim Peer Dargah in Vijaypura.

It is to be noted that a ban on cow slaughter is in place in Karnataka.
