The Hush Post: BJP is ahead of the Congress with 89 seats while Congress is at 83 seats in Karnataka polls. Janata Dal S has lead in 41 seats. At present, no one party looks headed towards a full majority in a Vidhan Sabha of 222 seats.
The Congress party began the day on a bright note today with encouraging results coming in for Congress party president Rahul Gandhi in Karnataka. With Congress taking a lead on 55 seats as of 8.40 am, BJP leading in 47 seats.
However, midway through things seemed to change for BJP. Former prime minister HD Deve Gowda’s party will be the deciding factor in forming the government and essentially it means all roads lead to Kumaraswamy’s house.
CM Siddaramaiah is trailing in Chamundeshwari. He is contesting from two constituencies, Chamundeshwari and Badami. From Badami, he is winning.
Poll pundits have called it a wave-less election in Karnataka. It is to be seen whether the anti-incumbency factor works in Karnataka, advantage BJP. Both the Congress and the BJP have claimed that they will win the election and form the government in the state on their own.
This election will also set a tone for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
