It’s surprising that a monkey literally drove a bus in Karnataka. But, it’s not surprising that the authorities have put the bus driver under suspension for letting the simian do so.

A video of the monkey holding the steering of the bus has gone viral. The video shows the monkey sitting right on the steering wheel with the bus driver sitting in his seat. The viral video of the incident has sparked humour and outrage, a report said.

The video clip shows the 36-year-old driver smiling and patting the monkey. The clips shows monkey sitting on the steering wheel of the moving bus in the video shot by a passenger.

“Driver M Prakash has been taken off duty for allowing the monkey to sit on the steering wheel and handle it,” a spokesperson for the Karnataka government’s road transport corporation said.

“Passengers’ safety is paramount and the driver cannot risk it by allowing a monkey on the steering,” the spokesman said.

The incident occurred on Monday. The authorities came to know about it after the video went viral on social media, the spokesman said.

About 30 passengers were on the bus that time

There were around 30 passengers on the bus at the time and none of them complained.

Local media reports say the langur monkey boarded with a passenger and was at the wheel for about 10 minutes.

A tweeter user said that the driver was in the wrong profession.

The state transport authority is conducting an investigation into the incident.
