The Hush Post: When summer becomes a bit unbearable for Ludhianvis and they yearn for a whiff of fresh air away in the hills, there is some respite coming their way. The industrial hub of the North, Ludhiana may soon have flights for Kullu and Shimla from the Sahnewal airport.
The Sahnewal airport’s acting director Amardeep Nehra told a national daily that Air Deccan has submitted a proposal to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for starting flights from Ludhiana to Delhi, Shimla and Kullu.
“Air Deccan has collected data from us about the passenger rush. They also studied condition of airports at Shimla and Kullu. The airlines and AAI in Delhi are finalising the schedule and other formalities,” an AAI official said.
The airport is already running a flight between Ludhiana and Delhi. Flight Deccan Charters N-28, with a seating capacity of about 20 passengers, will also start a daily flight to Delhi in the morning which will start by mid-May.
“After the second flight from Delhi to Ludhiana becomes operational, it will fly to Shimla and Kullu, too. The flight will come from Delhi to Ludhiana, go to Shimla and return before flying to Kullu. After coming back to Ludhiana, it will take off for Delhi,” he added.
