THE HUSH POST
Amazon.com Inc is expected to launch its online food service in India. The plan might kick-off ahead of the festive season starting in September this year. Amazon aims to take on domestic food delivery services such as Swiggy and Zomato.
According to Reuters, the Seattle-based company is working with its local partner Catamaran to launch the food home delivery service. Also, the company has started hiring new staff, although the plans are not made public.
Sources indicate that the company wants to enter the food business and add it to its services offered under the Prime Membership plan. A report by Business Standard shows that the company is in the initial phase of talks to buy UberEats. UberEats was launched back in 2017.
However, either of the companies has not accepted the claims. Amazon and Uber said that they don’t comment on rumors.
It is also believed that the company’s move towards food delivery from restaurants and food outlets will help Amazon to attract customers for their other services as well.
Amazon launched its Prime services in India in 2016 and has offered services like music, web series and video streaming. Along with that, they also offer grocery delivery in many cities across the country.
