A Taiwanese woman known for climbing mountains wearing bikinis froze to death after falling during a hike. 36-year-old GiGi Wu, claimed herself to be a ‘bikini climber’ was found dead in Taiwan’s Nantou County during a hike. The ‘bikini climber’ reportedly died of hypothermia after she fell down a ravine.
GiGi Wu had embarked on a solo hike through Yushan National Park. More than a week after setting off, she called a friend on a satellite phone and passed on a message. Wu had informed her friends that she was unable to move the lower half of her body after she had stumbled more than 65 ft into a narrow gorge. She however, was able to give her coordinates.
Black Hawk helicopters were pressed into service to save her, but poor weather conditions prevented them from taking off. It took rescuers more than a day to get to Wu. By the time search teams arrived, she had frozen to death.
Gigi Wu was known for hiking in bikinis and has a large social media following on Facebook and Instagram. Wu had garnered thousands of likes and shares online with her racy outdoor photos.
She usually wore hiking clothes to scale the mountains, only changing into a bikini once she reached the top.
In an interview to a local channel she claimed to have scaled more than 100 peaks in four years.
“I put on a bikini in each one of the 100 mountains. I only have around 97 bikinis so I accidentally repeated some,” she said.
