It has been confirmed that the two suicide bombers in Sri Lankan hotels attacks were Insan Seelavan and Zahran Hashim. They carried out blasts at Shangrila Hotel.
Insan Seelavan was a factory owner at Avissawella- Wellampitiya road.
Both the suicide bombers were sons of a wealthy spice trader of Colombo. They blew themselves up as guests queued for breakfast at the Shangri-La and Cinnamon Grand hotels. The brothers were key members of the Islamist National Thowheeth Jama’ath (NTJ) which the government has blamed for the attacks.
Seelavan’s wife and sister were killed in a bomb blast that took place in the northern suburb of Orugodawatta called Dematagoda. Nine employees from that factory were arrested by the Wellampitiya Police and were remanded till May 6 after being produced in the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
Both of them were also involved in murdering the family members of prominent spice trader, Ibrahim Dawood Hathiyar on Sunday when Christians celebrated Easter’s Sunday.
In a related development, a Muslim minister too is being investigated for a possible involvement in the bomb blasts that claimed the lives of nearly 300 people.
“The police are investigating our Muslim ministers. The identity of the minister however has not been revealed,” a source reportedly said.
A source revealed that a fourth hotel was also under target but the attack failed.
