Woman in coma for 14 years gives birth, police launch investigation

A woman, who has been in coma for more than 14 years, has given birth to a baby boy. The incident took place at Hacienda Health Care in Phoenix, US. As per a local CBS News affiliate, Arizona reported, the victim, who remains unnamed, gave birth to a healthy baby boy on Dec 29.

According to the Arizona, the patient has been in coma for 14 years nearly after drowning. The AZ Department of Health Services have issued a sexual abuse investigation as they are trying to establish how the woman became pregnant. Who is the father of the child?

A source told AZ Family that “none of the staff were aware that she was pregnant until she was pretty much-giving birth”.

The source said: “From what I’ve been told she was moaning. And they didn’t know what was wrong with her.”

Reportedly, male staff are now no longer allowed in the rooms of female patients. However, if needed, he must be accompanied by a female employee, as the investigation is underway.

A spokesman for Hacienda said, “We can say that our patients and clients health and safety is our number 1 priority and that we always cooperate, when asked by any agency, in an open and transparent way.”

In a statement, Hacienda HealthCare said it would also conduct an “internal review” to evaluate patient safety. Further investigation is on.
