One of the most trusted off-roading SUV in India, the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy is finally and officially discontinued by the company. You can no longer book the car as all the dealerships have stopped accepting the bookings. It was one of the oldest Maruti Suzuki SUV which ruled the Indian roads for more than three decades and was a hot favorite in the armed forces and off-road enthusiasts in India. It’s definitely very sad news for the off-roading community of the country.

The Gypsy was also one of the least selling models. It was low on fuel economy and comfort, was a completely old school design and the engine was too old to comply with the new safety and emission norms in India. Another limitation was the lack of diesel engine due to which it lost to its closest competitor the Mahindra Thar.

Initially launched as MG410 with a 1.0-litre petrol engine and later upgraded to MG413 to a 1.3-litre engine, Gypsy was one of the most capable 4X4 vehicle in the country. It is till noe used by the armed forces due it extreme off-roading capabilities. The discontinuation of Gypsy will mark the end of an era which will always be cherished by Gypsy enthusiasts.
