Bhopal: A professor at the Rajiv Gandhi PG College at Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh tried to literally touch feet of students. The reason behind the gesture was a satirical move or out of fear or apology is not clear.
According to news reports, the incident took place on Wednesday. The professor was allegedly called anti-national by ABVP students. He was trying to stop students from sloganeering. On the other hand, the students alleged that he had tried to stop them from saying ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’.
They asked him to apologise and questioned his patriotism. In response, the professor began touching the feet of the students. The students too were shocked at first and then embararrased. In a video doing the rounds on social media, the professor is heard calling out to students to come near him. He even chased some of them to touch their feet.
Principal of the college Ravindra Sohni later said that allegations made against the professor were incorrect. “Students are alleging that professor stopped them from raising ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ slogans. He just stopped them from raising slogans,” he told news agency ANI.
