The Hush Post: Drivers of popular cab companies, Ola Cabs and Uber, have threatened to go on an indefinite strike, starting the midnight of March 18. While tier-II cities are not expected to be affected, the strike is expected to be observed in larger cities like

  • Delhi
  • Mumbai
  • Bengaluru
  • Hyderabad
  • Pune, among others.

Sanjay Naik, a member of the Maharashtra Navnirman Vahatuk Sena, said “Ola Cabs and Uber had given big assurances to the drivers, but today they are unable to cover their costs. They have invested Rs 5-7 lakh, and were expecting to make Rs 1.5 lakh a month but are unable to even make half of this, owing to the mismanagement by these companies.”

Alleging that the companies are giving a priority to company owned cars over driver owned cars, Naik also alleged that this has severely dented the business of such drivers.

In Mumbai, there are around 45,000 Ola and Uber vehicles, but the city has seen a fall of nearly 20 per cent vehicles due to a slump in the business. Adding that the drivers would go on an indefinite strike if their demands were not met, Naik said they had also met MNS Chief Raj Thackeray.
