Already under fire for fielding Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, the BJP was in for another embarrassment today. Pragya Thakur made an adverse comment against former Anti-Terrorist Squad chief Hemant Karkare even as the BJP distanced itself from it. The BJP termed it “her personal remarks.”
Pragya Thakur claimed that Karkare died during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks as she “cursed” him for torturing her. “Hemant Karkare falsely implicated me. He died of his karma. Maine kaha tera sarvanash hoga,” said Pragya Thakur.
PRAGYA DRAWS FLAK
The statement drew sharp reaction from all quarters with association of IPS officers slamming her for “insulting” the 26/11 martyr.
The IPS Association tweeted, “Ashok Chakra awardee late Sri Hemant Karkare, IPS made the supreme sacrifice fighting terrorists. Those of us in uniform condemn the insulting statement made by a candidate and demand that sacrifices of all our martyrs be respected.”
The BJP candidate however, withdrew her comments later, saying she “does not want Opposition to benefit from it”.
Pragya Singh Thakur is contesting Lok Sabha elections from Bhopal. She will take on Congress veteran and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh in a direct contest.
