A Jet Airways employee allegedly committed suicide by jumping off from his four-storied building in Mumbai on Saturday. Police say that the deceased Shailesh Singh was suffering from cancer and was under depression.
“He was suffering from cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy. Prima facie, it seems he was suffering from depression due to the ailment,” said the police.
The 45-year-old was working as a senior technician with the cash-strapped airlines. He was undergoing chemotherapy. Shailesh jumped off from the terrace of his house in Nalasopara area of Palghar district of Maharashtra.
Notably, Jet Airways is reeling under a Rs 8,000 crore debt and has grounded its operations. Jet Airways has around 20,000 employees who haven’t got their salaries for months on run.
Jet employees association has claimed that Shailesh took the extreme step out as he was reeling under a financial crisis. His son also works for Jet Airways. Shailesh is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
It was the first suicide of an employee since Jet Airways suspended operations.
An accidental death case has been registered and a probe was underway into the incident.
