Abu Salem seeks parole to get married to Mumbra resident Kausar Bahar

Abu salem seeks parole

The Hush Post: Gangster Abu Salem, serving life imprisonment in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, has moved the Bombay High Court for parole. The matter will come up today before a Division Bench of the Bombay High Court. His application was rejected twice earlier by the Konkan Divisional Commissioner and the appellate authorities for security reasons.

Abu Salem lodged in the Taloja jail has sought a 45-day parole to get married to Mumbra resident Kausar Bahar. Salem claims to have married Kausar over the phone during a train journey in 2014, when he was being taken to Lucknow for a court hearing. Salem had moved the application requesting a 45-day parole to marry Sayed Bahar Kausar, alias Heena, on May 5 this year. Kausar had then filed an application before the local court threatening to kill herself if she was not granted permission to marry Salem.

Recently, Abu Salem had sent a legal notice to makers of blockbuster film ‘Sanju’ for defamation, alleging filmmaker Raju Hirani had spread misinformation about him through the film.

Salem was extradited from Portugal in 2005 for his involvement in the 1993 Mumbai blasts. A Mumbai court in 2017 had awarded death sentence to Tahir Merchant and Firoz Abdul Rashid Khan and life imprisonment to extradited gangster Abu Salem in the 1993 serial blasts case. Besides Salem, the court had sentenced Karimullah Khan to life imprisonment in the case while awarding a ten-year sentence to the fifth convict, Riyaz Siddiqui.

A special TADA court had convicted six persons, including mastermind Mustafa Dossa and Salem, in the blasts case, 24 years after the attacks left 257 people dead in the country’s financial capital.
