Bollywood Superstar Amitabh Bachchan is eyeing entry into the IPL Indian Premier League. Bachchans already have stakes in Indian Super League franchise Chennaiyin FC and Pro-kabaddi league franchise Jaipur Pink Panthers.
Bachchans first approached Chennai Super Kings but after no headways it started talks with Rajasthan Royals.
However, since the tainted Lalit Modi’s family still has stakes in Rajasthan Royal the talks probably failed. “Yes, Abhishek Bachchan met Manoj Badale in London some time ago,” ABC CEO Ramesh Pulapaka said.
Rajasthan Royal may have been looking for a celebrity endorser after the exit of Shilpa Shetty and husband Raj Kundra, following allegations of betting and match-fixing in 2013. And that is where Amitabh Bachchan fits in.
It has been learnt that the Bachchans are looking at a brand endorsing role with minority stakes. Bachchans have a similar understating with the Dani family of Chennaiyin FC.
However, the Supreme Court has asked the COA Committee of Administrators to run the day to day affairs of the BCCI. The big question is whether the COA can allow any such changes in the IPL. The Bachchan’s entry into the prestigious cricket league will most likely depend on that.
