The famous RK Studios at Mumbai’s Chembur suburb is now a property of Godrej company.
In a statement to the stock exchange, the Godrej Properties has revealed that the company will turn the property measuring 2.2 acres, into a mix of residential and commercial project.
The company added that it will construct 33,000 square meters of “modern residential apartments of various configurations as well as a luxury retail experience”.
However, Godrej Properties did not reveal the price it paid for the RK Studios.
The property which is located on the Sion-Panvel section on the Eastern Express Highway was bought by veteran actor Raj Kapoor in 1948. He had converted the property into RK Studios and produced most of his films at the films sets constructed on the premises.
Raj Kapoor’s son Randhir Kapoor also said in a statement, “This property in Chembur has been of tremendous significance to my family over the many decades that RK Studios has operated from there. We are excited to have chosen Godrej Properties to script a new chapter for this location and built upon its rich legacy.”
Last time the RK Studio was in news for a massive fire incident on the premises which caused a loss of several memorabilia associated with the late Raj Kapoor’s films.
