Aamir Khan is playing the role of Lord Krishna in his dream project — Mahabharata. He has for a long time expressed his desire to adapt the ancient Indian epic for the big screen on the lines of ‘The Lord of Rings.’ He had also said that he would “love” to play the role of Krishna if a film would ever be made on the epic saga.

The idea has been in the pipeline since long. But Aamir began working on it only just recently. He has also opted out of astronaut Rakesh Sharma’s biopic (‘Saare Jahaan Se Achha’) to focus on the ambitious project. Now, Shah Rukh Khan will play the lead in the upcoming biopic.

“Frankly, I was very keen that Aamir should do the film. He liked the script, we discussed it a lot and we had a lot of hopes about it. Unfortunately, Aamir is consumed with a larger sort of project called Mahabharat,” writer Anjum Rajabali had said.

It is Shah Rukh Khan who confirmed that Aamir is playing Lord Krishna. On being asked about what kind of role he would like to essay, Shah Rukh told DNA, ‘Krishna from Mahabharata’ before adding, “Krishna from Mahabharata has already been taken by Aamir so I will not be able to do that.”

On the work front, Shah Rukh’s new film Zero is currently running in theatres. The film, released on December 21, opened to mixed reviews and collected Rs 20.14 crore in its first day. While Aamir’s last film Thugs of Hindostan was highly criticised by the audiences.
